Piazza della Pomposa °

At the end of Via del Taglio

Maybe one of the most picturesque corner of the old town, the Piazza della Pomosa is dominated by the church of Santa Maria della Pomposa°. On the left of its facade, a little fountain was donated by Telesforo Fini, the world famous restaurateur who made Modenese culinary products so well known world wide. Then, there is the little garden of the house of Ludovico Antonio Muratori, the brilliant historian and man of letters, living between the XVII and the XVIII century. He was actually the priest of the church: now the so-called Aedes Muratoriana° is a museum and National monument. In the square there is also the bell tower of the church.
Number 40, casa Tassoni was built in the XVII century in the Modenese Renaissance style (two edifices with a terrace with rare grape vines). Taking via del Voltone you can reach to the Palace of the Foro Boario°°.
